Berching with its circular defensive wall, four town gates and 13 towers ... A mediaeval gem to enjoy at your leisure the Altmühlthal valley.
Berching is picturesquely situated in the valley of the river Sulz, and it is known as a health resort as well as a gem of mediaeval history. With its 15th-century ring of town walls still completely intact, and with 13 towers and four town gates as well as the landing stage at the waterside promenade in the South, the beautiful old town enchants every visitor. A stream meanders through the main square and scenic historical guided tours lead the visitor into sleepy alleys of olden days. Every year the famous horse market "Berchinger Rossmarkt" takes place on the Wednesday after Candle mas. There is a museum dedicated to the opera reformer Christoph Willibald-Gluck, the most famous son of the town. Info: Stadt Berching, Tel. +49 8464/20513
